Bucks mission brief

Whisky Mission! locks the crew in a room together with fifty minutes on the clock and a code that only breaks if everyone actually talks to each other. Big groups split across more than one room and race without meaning to, then regroup at the bar where the first toast to the Buck lands before the whole team's even out. From there it's straight into a laneway whisky lounge, open reserved seating held for the group, two hours of free-flowing drinks running the whole sitting: spirits, beers, wine, soft drink for whoever's pacing themselves. Turkish bread, dips, mac and cheese balls and calamari keep the table going while the toasts keep coming, and the group walks straight in like they're expected. Nothing left to work out on the night: it's locked in, same as him.

Whisky Mission! starts with the door shutting and the clock starting, no warm-up, no small talk, just the crew locked into a room with a code somewhere in the puzzle that only breaks if everyone actually works it together.

Fifty minutes of that pressure does something a few beers never quite manages: quiet blokes start calling the shots, someone gets blamed for slowing the whole team down, and by the halfway mark the banter's running hotter than the countdown. Big crews split across more than one room and end up racing each other without meaning to, which only makes the finish funnier.

Whoever gets out first heads straight for the bar, drink already poured, and waits there for the rest of the room to catch up, which means the first toast to the Buck happens before the whole crew's even reunited. He walks out to a room half-cheering, half-still-arguing about who actually solved the final clue.

From there the mission changes shape entirely. The crew moves into a laneway whisky lounge, open reserved seating held for the group in the main room, no scramble for a table, nobody working out where everyone's meant to sit. Two hours of free-flowing drinks run from the second they're seated: spirits, beers, wine and a soft drink for whoever's driving or just pacing themselves, nobody flagging anyone down or waiting on a bill.

Turkish bread and dips land first, then mac and cheese balls and calamari keep coming while the group settles in, less a bar snack and more a proper spread built to outlast the drinking. The toasting from the escape room never actually stops, it just changes rooms: every round in is another excuse to raise a glass to the man who's somehow both relieved and slightly terrified about what's coming next.

The group walks straight into the lounge like they're expected, because they are: no queue, no name at the door, no explaining who they're with. It's the kind of night that reads as effortless because somebody actually did the organising, and that somebody was you.

There's only one code that gets a crew into this room on any given night, and once it's booked, it's solved. The prime Saturday sessions never stay available for long, so crack on before another crew beats you to it.
