What To Expect At A Bucks Party

Reading this, you’re either a Best Man confused about what he has to do, an invitee scared of what’ll happen at a buck’s part, or the Buck themselves terrified of what your Best Man might do. Either way, welcome! We’ll run you through what you’re looking at when you’ve been invited to a buck’s party and even some cheeky helpful hints.

But First

Let’s cover what a buck’s, or bachelor’s, or stag party is. Now, whilst images of gallivanting through Vegas, hanging out of a limo with the lights blurring, all of your friends there, and the champagne is flowing may be what’s running through your mind, this is only half true. Whilst a buck’s party could definitely be like that, it could also be a lot smaller and less extravagant. Some best men choose to take the buck out for a weekend of camping, or have a small drinks gathering at a bar, others choose to go all the way with strippers, kegs, clubs, and steak dinners. Either way it’s usually up to the best man to plan it, so if you’re really concerned get in touch with him about the plans. The point of the party is to celebrate the Buck as he heads on a great adventure, it’s to give him a reprieve from the wedding planning, to get all of his friends together for a great gig, and, most importantly, just to have fun!

Activities

Many buck’s parties are not just about drinking and clubbing, there’s heaps of activities that may be on offer. These can range from outdoor ones like go-karting, paintball, a day of golf, or even a day out fishing with the lads. Alternatively it could be brewery hopping followed by a helicopter ride, chased by steak dinner and whiskey tasting. There’s really not much that doesn’t go, and it all hinges on the buck’s taste and what the best man has put together. If you know the pair of them this could be a great indication of what to expect- are they outdoorsy people? Do they enjoy sunshine and beers or bars and fine dining?

People

Who will be there? That’s a question we’ve all asked whenever we’ve been invited to something! For a buck’s party the answer can be less vague than asking your mum and she rattles off everyone from her pilates class to her highschool friends. To a buck’s party it's usually those that are close to the buck. Rarely exceeding 15-20 at the larger end of things, these are usually smaller gatherings with people the buck directly knows and trusts. It’s quite possible all the people at this party know each other, and if not, at least it’s a safe bet they’ll have the buck in common!

Food and Bevs

To eat or not to eat, that is the question. Some buck’s parties are full of food, if it's at home there can be everything from snags and burgers straight off the barbie, to snacks and those little sausages that you grab with a toothpick and dip in tomato sauce. Cold options include dips and crackers, charcuterie boards, and some desserts. Alternatively all the dining could be outside the house, you may be looking at beers and burgers at a brewery (or several), an enormous steak or meat board dinner, alternatively it could be fish the party’s freshly caught and cooked on the same boat. There’s usually some sort of food involved, but of course you can always ask the buck or the best man directly and they’ll give you a run down. It may even be an eat before you come affair!
Drinks on the other hand are usually a little more straight forward, it really only depends on the location. Soft drinks for the underagers, deso drivers, and the non-drinkers, alcohol (often BYO) for everyone else. Wine at a winery and beer at a brewery are traditional, but if you’re out at a bar then anything goes as long as it's to your taste.

Fun

Finally, expect to have fun! This party is all about the people closest to the buck having fun with the buck before he disappears for a honeymoon. It’s for catching up before work gets busy and children come along. So relax and enjoy your invitation to an exclusive party to spend some with your best friend!

Of course if you’re still concerned or just curious about what to expect at a buck’s party, you can simply ask the Best Man to help organise it, we’re sure they’ll appreciate the help, and if they’re all good then you can at least ask about what’s going on!
