Looking to take advantage of the weather on a special day for the man of the hour? Or perhaps he’s just the outdoor type and you couldn’t rip the nature outta him with the jaws of life and an awfully long skewer, in any case, you’re heading to the great outdoors because that’s what your best mate wants! There’s plenty of activities to do without a roof, some you may have the gear to do yourself, others may require a bit more prep, either way, what’s better than spending time with your mates outside?
Home Barbie
We’ll start easy with this classic, the great Aussie barbie (a story of a lone barbeque trying to outrun a nuclear blast, for all the Barbenheimer fans). Gather the lads, maybe even their extensions, get out in the backyard or a park and fire up the ovens Muffin Man you’ve got a big order to fill (Bit of Shrek 2 there for you). This is a great way to chill out with everyone, from extended family to your closest mates. Bring out the beer and the burgs and get your chef on, maybe even as you’re recovering from the night before. With a vibe curated by music you can sit back and enjoy the space on a summer’s day, perfect for the chillaxed buck. Alternatively you can do this with a few friends in the arse end of nowhere, and it’ll be just as perfect!
Offroading
This one is pretty achievable even if you don’t have the gear yourself- there’s plenty of companies that will facilitate it, or maybe even a mate has the goods. Load up the party and get bush bashing through the glorious Aussie bush, taking in the sun, the air, the sand, and the good times as you blast tunes out of that beat up 100 series. Whether your destination is one of Aus’s many secluded beaches where you’ll crack open the esky and enjoy a refreshing thirst crusher, or you’re heading up river for a campfire under the stars before a day of boating, sometimes the hippies are right and it's about the journey not the destination. Enjoy the time in the great outdoors with your lads, which may include winching, impromptu repairs, tyre replacements, sand, and a whole lotta glorious fun.
Brewery
What’s better than beers and the boys on a golden day? Look, we’d argue nothing, but that was a trick question. So push the lads out the door and head over to a brewery, hell, why not make it two?....Three? Some Places have exposed red brick walls where the beer flows from showerheads and you can barely see the menu over all the man-buns behind the counter (we swear it’s still in fashion), others have the air feel with high ceilings, greenery everywhere, and a fantastic beer garden. Whichever vibe is yours, it’s time to have a refreshing chilled glass of that beautiful amber liquid, perfected and invented upon over thousands of years. WIth many breweries having state of the art kitchens and renowned dishes, maybe even treat yourself to someone the local fare, sliders or thick cut wedges make the perfect pairing.
Golf
A few options for the sport of champions here, got something on in the afternoon? How about 9 holes. Nothing on in the arvo? How about 18 holes. Feel like nothing serious and just want to have a good time? Checkout an outdoor minigolf. Whatever your poison, it’ll be a day in the sun with your boys, and we’re sure that’ll breed its own comedy, knowing you lot. Of course, there’s always time to pair this with an evening of wine or a few cold ones back at the clubhouse, as long as you’re with the lads, you’ll have fun.
White Water Rafting
On the more adventurous side of things, we can look at the time honoured white water rafting. The exhilarating rush you get from barrelling through tight canyons, water frothing and thrashing around you, all your mates squealing because you just splashed them with your paddle and it’s gone down their life jacket, is like nothing else. Add in that teamwork feel and a great guide, and this can truly be one of the more memorable activities you can do under the sun, and on a perfect day you’ll dry off quick too!
Paintball
An utter classic this one is and you know it. Be as trigger happy as you want as long as it’s at the other team and you’re destined to be a winner in this game. Get onto the battlefield and show your mates who’s king of the hill as you slug them left and right in various body parts with high velocity paintballs. With games like capture the flag and team deathmatch, you’ll have plenty of time to work with and against an assortment of your mates. Best part is often these fields can accommodate large parties so you can get all the boys involved!
Fishing
If you’ve done this before on the perfect day then we probably don’t need to say much more. Aw nah we’ll keep going just to remind you, preaching to the choir is a hobby anyway. Picture this: you and your best mates, multiple eskies full of your favourite beverage, a little Weber, and a couple of BBQ bits and pieces, all step onto the covered deck of a boat and cast off into the deep blue or up river, to enjoy the day away. Sounds like paradise to us! Crackout the rods and have a fish, even frying them up on that little barbie you brought, or just sit back and watch your mate’s line as you shoot the shit and have a cold one with your favourite tunes on. Everyone’s a winner out on the glass so revel in your glory in the great outdoors.
